Zian Flemming netted his fifth goal in as many games to seal Millwall's first away win of the season, at Bristol City.

The Dutch midfielder fired the winner with 14 minutes left after City failed to clear Shaun Hutchinson's free-kick.

Tom Bradshaw had put the Lions in front on the stroke of half-time, netting at the second attempt.

City's Cameron Pring equalised when his shot deflected in off Hutchinson, only for Flemming to make it 2-1 before Benik Afobe missed a late penalty.

Despite an early half-chance for Antoine Semenyo, whose effort was charged down, the home side offered little during the first period.

Millwall went close when Hutchinson's header was blocked on the line, while Murray Wallace tested Robins keeper Max O'Leary from distance.

But O'Leary was beaten on the stroke of half-time, keeping out Bradshaw's initial header from Wallace's cross only for the Lions striker to gobble up the rebound.

City improved after the break and the lively Semenyo forced George Long to save with his legs before a cluster of substitutions brought about an equaliser with 20 minutes remaining.

Chris Martin found Semenyo, who turned his marker and picked out Pring, with Hutchinson unable to prevent his shot from crossing the line.

However, Hutchinson then supplied the assist for Millwall's winner, with O'Leary unable to gather the free-kick and Flemming pouncing to tuck away the loose ball.

Lions substitute Afobe could have wrapped up the win with a third deep into added time, but O'Leary dived to keep out his spot-kick.

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson told BBC Radio Bristol:

"It's another missed opportunity where we've conceded two poor goals again. The second one's a bit of a horror, really.

"We can't keep making those basic errors. Millwall are very physical and we did compete with them, but we still got done, I'm afraid.

"The first goal Max made a good save and we didn't react quick enough, then the second one we've gifted to them, so that remains a big frustration.

"We didn't find the moments of quality we needed but we still had some really promising situations we didn't take advantage of."

Millwall manager Gary Rowett told BBC Radio London 94.9:

"Zian's got top quality. He's a player we knew all about. We watched him for a long time and we knew what he can do and I think there's a lot more to come.

"It's really important that we got that hoodoo off our back to get our first away win.

"We've come on the back of a good home win and produced again today. I thought we looked really solid, really resolute.

"We've got to maintain that and continue to put in those performances, full of effort and a little bit of quality to win games."
