Sam Cosgrove scored a hat-trick as Plymouth came from 3-0 down to beat AFC Wimbledon on penalties and reach the last eight of the Papa Johns Trophy.

Kyle Hudlin tapped in from close range and crashed in a second soon after to give the Dons a 2-0 lead before Ayoub Assal fired home the third.

Cosgrove began the comeback when he tapped in and then nodded in his second before driving home to level the tie.

Bali Mumba struck the vital spot-kick as Plymouth won 4-3 on penalties.

Ryan Hardie missed with Argyle's first penalty, but the shootout swung in their favour when Callum Burton saved from Assal and David Fisher then drove over.

Plymouth will travel to Bristol Rovers in the quarter-finals in the new year, with the date of the tie still to be determined.
