Luton Town, Swansea City, Richie Kyle and Russell Martin fined after melee

Swansea City head coach Russell Martin and Luton Town assistant boss Richie Kyle have been fined for improper behaviour, but avoided touchline bans.

Both clubs have also been fined by the Football Association (FA) following a "mass confrontation" during their bad-tempered Championship game on 4 March.

Luton have been fined £13,500 and Swansea £11,000, while Martin must pay £2,000 and Kyle £1,000.

The fines are the result of a melee which saw Martin and Kyle sent off.

Martin and Kyle admitted their behaviour had been improper and accepted standard penalties, while an independent commission found that the two clubs had "failed to ensure their benches conducted themselves in an orderly fashion".

The flashpoint came in the closing minutes of Luton's 1-0 win, when Hatters boss Rob Edwards stepped onto the field of play to protest about what he felt was "a hand to the face" of one of his players.

Martin reacted, as did Kyle, during a coming together involving staff and players from both clubs by the dugouts.

"Something goes on, their manager jumps on the pitch, I didn't like it," Martin said after the game.

Former Wales international Edwards said: "I have appealed something and gone on to the pitch so I have probably started the whole thing off, so I hold my hands up."
