Ten-man Rotherham ground out a valuable point at Hull to strengthen their fight against relegation.

The Millers had midfielder Domingos Quina dismissed late on for taking out Adama Traore when he was through on goal.

But they held on to secure a draw and deny the home side, who have now won just once in nine games.

Hull's best chance fell to Ryan Longman, who was foiled by a superb stop from Viktor Johansson.

Despite the absence of injured top scorer Oscar Estupinan, the Tigers were firmly on top during the early stages, with Regan Slater narrowly off target from the edge of the penalty area.

And Longman, who replaced Estupinan in the starting line-up, almost broke the deadlock when Traore played him in on goal, only to be denied by Johansson's valiant point-blank save.

The Millers gradually began to find their feet and forced a string of corners, with Lee Peltier going close from one of them as he steered Shane Ferguson's ball over the bar.

Hull boss Liam Rosenior withdrew Longman in favour of Ozan Tufan early in the second half and the Turkey international was unlucky not to give his side the lead, hitting a shot into the ground and up onto the woodwork.

Malcolm Ebiowei also went close from distance before Quina - making only his second appearance after joining on loan from Watford - was shown a straight red card by referee David Webb.

However, the resulting free-kick from Ebiowei was too high and, although Alfie Jones blazed a late chance over in the closing stages, Hull could not make their numerical advantage count.

The Tigers slip to 17th place, while Rotherham remain 20th, two points above the bottom three.

Hull head coach Liam Rosenior told BBC Radio Humberside:

"We should have won the game. We should have taken our chances and they didn't have a shot on our goal.

"It's really frustrating at the moment. We are dominating games, creating clear-cut chances - and we're missing them.

"There were so many times when we got in and the final ball just wasn't good enough.

"We had enough quality on the pitch to finish off those chances and we have to find a way of being more ruthless as a team. That's something I will address in the coming games and in the summer as well."

Rotherham manager Matt Taylor told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"I thought we kept them at arm's length for the majority of it. Viktor's made one save in the first half and we didn't quite make the most of our attacking opportunities, but that's not me being disappointed with the performance in any way.

"When you do go down to 10 men, it's important you get something to show for your efforts, with bodies on the line and resilience.

"Actually Domingos Quina took our attacking set-piece, so it showed he was thinking the right thing in terms of his recovery run - he had to try and make the block.

"The referee's made the right decision because it is outside the box and the red card is the right decision as well."
