Champions League final: Ferguson's finest or Guardiola's greatest? Who did you pick?
- Published
Manchester City are just one game away from joining city rivals Manchester United as the only English teams to win the Treble.
Sir Alex Ferguson's United became the first team from this country to win the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same season in 1998-99.
And now Pep Guardiola's City will join them - securing him a second Treble after achieving it with Barcelona in 2009 - if they beat Inter Milan in Istanbul on Saturday. But how do they compare?
We asked you to pick your combined XI from the respective squads from the two seasons and it has produced interesting results.
United's '99 side have the greater number of players in the XI, beating City seven to four.
The names involved are unsurprising - goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, defenders Denis Irwin and Jaap Stam, and midfielders Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, David Beckham and Ryan Giggs all make the cut.
City are represented by defenders Kyle Walker and Ruben Dias, midfielder Kevin de Bruyne and prolific striker Erling Haaland.
The two most-picked players were both from Guardiola's side - with Haaland making 92.8% of teams, followed by De Bruyne (89.9%) and United's Schmeichel (87.2%) rounding out the top three.
Best Guardiola XI?
City's date with destiny comes 14 years after Guardiola led Barcelona to the Treble in 2008-09, in what was his first season as a manager of a top-flight club.
We also asked you to pick your combined XI from the Spaniard's City side of this season and his all-conquering Barcelona of 2009.
There were some tough calls in this one, not least of all in midfield, where De Bruyne broke up Barca's famed trio, muscling out Sergio Busquets to feature alongside Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
City's Ederson got the nod in goal, but in front of him you picked an all-Barca defence of Dani Alves, Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique and Eric Abidal.
Anyone fancy trying to stop your chosen front three of Lionel Messi, Haaland and Thierry Henry?!
On this occasion, seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi garnered the most picks, making 97.8% of teams (meaning 2.2% of people actually didn't pick him!), followed by Haaland (88.4%) and Iniesta (87.5%).
You can still pick your two combined XIs below and share them on social media but they will not count towards the final results...
