Hull midfielder Regan Slater scored late in the first half to deny Plymouth victory at the MKM Stadium.

Adam Randell had given the visitors - who are yet to win on their travels this season - the lead, starting and finishing a neat move that flowed through Joe Edwards and Finn Azaz before finishing when Bali Mumba's cross was parried by goalkeeper Ryan Allsop.

Slater struck back for the home side, finishing off a low cross from Jaden Philogene, who had done brilliantly to keep the ball alive.

And Argyle were indebted to a fine goalkeeping display from Conor Hazard to protect the point in a frantic second half.

Liam Rosenior has made Hull a hard team to beat so far this season, with this result taking them to eight matches without a loss, but it was also their fourth consecutive home draw.

Indeed, the Tigers have drawn 10 of their 18 games on their home turf since Rosenior took over, and won six.

It could have been worse for them in the first half as Aston Villa loanee Azaz twice went close to doubling the visitors' lead, blocking Jean Michael Seri's clearance to send the ball narrowly wide, and then seeing his shot hit the post and roll across the face of goal.

The Hull momentum built steadily in the second half but as the game entered added time, Hazard produced terrific saves from Alfie Jones and Philogene to keep a point intact for Steven Schumacher's men.

Hull manager Liam Rosenior told BBC Radio Humberside:

"Frustrated not to win the game but in terms of our performance, our domination and our control I couldn't be happier.

"We had so many chances towards the end of the game because Plymouth expended so much energy chasing us in the first half.

"I was delighted how we responded when Plymouth's first shot ended up in the back of our net - it was like attack vs defence in the second half. They had to dig in, and on another day we score three, four, five goals.

"But for a world-class save from their goalkeeper we win 2-1."

Plymouth manager Steven Schumacher told BBC Radio Devon:

"I don't think Hull City have lost here in the last 18 appearances, one of our analysts told me, so we expected a tough game, and that's exactly what we got.

"Hull started really well but once we settled down after ten or 15 minutes I thought we looked good and composed, caused them a few problems, scored a goal at a good time for us and almost got a second.

"If that had gone in we could have been more in control of the whole game but to concede right before half time was a bit of a blow, from a mistake by us.

"In the last five minutes we had to put our bodies on the line and work so hard to get what was probably a deserved point."
