Around 20 fans ran on to the pitch during Leyton Orient's match against Lincoln City to alert the referee to a medical emergency in the crowd.

The League One match was abandoned after 82 minutes at Brisbane Road.

Stewards initially ran to the emergency at the front of the East Stand as a fan ran on to the pitch to urge referee Stephen Martin to halt the match.

Play continued before more fans sat on the pitch as the supporter was treated and players were eventually led off.

The decision to abandon the game was announced at 22:25 BST, almost an hour after the match was paused.

Medical teams were still attending to the supporter as fans left the stadium.

A statement from the English Football League (EFL) on Tuesday said a decision would be made on whether the fixture will be rescheduled or if the result at the time of the abandonment will stand "after consultation with both clubs".

The statement added: "Our thoughts are with the supporter concerned and everyone else who was affected by this distressing incident this evening."

Leyton Orient added: "The thoughts of everyone at Leyton Orient Football Club are with the individual involved and their loved ones at this distressing time.

"The club would like to thank all supporters in attendance at Brisbane Road this evening for the understanding and compassion shown, during a very difficult situation."
