Darren Moore's return to Hillsborough for the first time since his Sheffield Wednesday exit saw him receive a warm reception as Huddersfield Town picked up a point in a Championship stalemate.

Moore left the Owls after securing promotion back to the Championship last season, and results have not gone well for Wednesday since, with Xisco Munoz dismissed in midweek after a winless start.

The home side had chances to give Neil Thompson a perfect start to his interim spell in charge, as Callum Paterson spun and volleyed wide with one chance while George Byers also had home hopes up with a driving run.

Huddersfield's best chances fell to defender Michal Helik who could only push his effort wide, and Sorba Thomas, who missed the target late on and sent in a string of crosses that went unfinished.

Neither side will be too impressed by the point. Wednesday are yet to win and remain bottom, with the Terriers just three spots above the drop zone in 19th place.

Having taken Wednesday back to the second tier, this season looked set to be Moore's chance to continue his good work, but disagreement with owner Dejphon Chansiri led to his exit before a ball was kicked of the new campaign.

His track record at the Owls, coupled with spells at Doncaster and West Brom, attracted Huddersfield to appoint him to their ranks, but it has been a slightly stuttering start since.

Huddersfield's fans will have been heartened by the applause of the home support, hoping that given time Moore can deliver positive results after three draws and a loss to begin his spell, and not a single shot on target here.

His opposite number Thompson ushered in the post-Munoz era by overhauling the starting line-up, with only Manchester United loanee Di'Shon Bernard retaining his place from the Spaniard's summer signings.

There was a more positive approach from the home side, with the returning Byers, experienced Paterson and forward focal point Michael Smith impressing, but still their scoring woes continue with just five goals in 11 games after this fixture.

Sheffield Wednesday caretaker boss Neil Thompson:

"We are on the back of a bad run and they've come off the back of a bad result in midweek. It was always going to be tight, a bit cagey. Not a lot of quality possession but a lot of endeavour.

"I thought we had a little spell just before half-time where we got a bit of controlled possession in their half. Maybe we could have done a little bit more with it.

"In the second 45, I thought that we were the team probably that was going to score. It was a game of few chances, but if you're not going to win it, you're not going to lose it and we didn't lose it.

"It's a prerequisite that you compete and we did that. That's what I got from the boys today. They put a lot into the game."

Huddersfield manager Darren Moore:

"What you got from the game was two teams committed to not giving anyone any space on the pitch to manoeuvre.

"I thought we shaded the chances better and certainly off the back of the performance in the week, a clean sheet was really important for us.

"I'm looking at the next two weeks as an opportunity to work with the team. The players have been absolutely diamonds - every single one of them - because everything we've asked them to do in small pockets, they've been doing.

"We have a chance to get some work done on the training ground. When we do get into these threatening areas, where we can be more of a threat and more punishing to the opposition."
