Wigan Athletic and Stevenage have been fined a total of £11,750 for a "mass confrontation" during their fractious League One meeting earlier this month.

Both clubs admitted to failing to control the behaviour of their players in the 77th minute of the match.

Players clashed following a tackle by Stevenage's Alex MacDonald on Wigan defender Charlie Hughes, which led to substitute MacDonald being sent off.

Players squared up to each other after the challenge by substitute MacDonald on Hughes, in front of the away dugout.

MacDonald was shown a straight red card - 14 minutes after coming off the bench.

Wigan also finished the game with 10 men after captain Callum Lang was shown a second yellow card on 34 minutes, as Aaron Pressley's ninth-minute penalty proved enough to give Stevenage a 1-0 win.
