Rangers manager Philippe Clement insists "nothing concerns" him about a proposed consultancy role for former Ibrox boss Graeme Souness.

Souness was part of the process that resulted in Clement succeeding Michael Beale and has said he is close to agreement to remain involved.

The 54-cap Scotland midfielder left Ibrox for Liverpool in April 1991.

"We are both passionate people about football and about this club, so that's never a problem," Clement said.

The former Genk and Monaco manager bristled, though, at media reports, external suggesting Souness had a slight preference for former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard to be appointed.

He dismissed that as inaccurate, saying: "That's a good lesson for me now that I read everything that he said because the things you say, you put it in a different perspective.

"I'm here to build a team, to make a team stronger. I'm not here to talk about rumours. That was not the real story what he said."

Clement did concede that Rangers face "a bumpy ride" given their hectic schedule but hopes to go "straight over the bumps" and is convinced they "can make a really good season."

The Belgian also revealed that Kemar Roofe faces another spell on the sidelines as the striker searches for a solution to his long-term injury problems.

"We first need to make a really good assessment on how to bring Kemar back in a way that he can be a long time back, not short time," he explained.

"That's been the case last couple of months, to get him fit for games but in between struggling. We need to get him really fit."

Rangers host Heart of Midlothian on Sunday after their 0-0 Europa League draw against Sparta Prague.

They played that fixture without a recognised left-back with Borna Barisic injured and Ridvan Yilmaz not registered for the competition.

Barisic will be assessed for this weekend, with midfielder Jose Cifuentes scheduled to return to training.

Striker Danilo, who featured from the bench on Thursday, is not yet ready for 90 minutes as he continues his comeback from a facial injury having featured from the bench.
