Norwich defender Ben Gibson will be out of action until at least Christmas after suffering a stress fracture of a metatarsal in his foot.

The 30-year-old former Burnley centre-back joined the Canaries in the summer of 2021 and has made 15 appearances this season.

"Injuries are part of the game, we will never take this as an excuse," boss David Wagner told BBC Radio Norfolk.

Gibson's absence could mean more opportunities for Danny Batth.

He was signed from Sunderland on transfer deadline day but has yet to start a game for the club, appearing twice as a substitute so far.

"Unfortunately for Danny, he was cup-tied. He's a top professional, very down to earth, very good in the dressing room," said Wagner.

Another defensive option is Jaden Warner, who impressed against Fulham in the Carabao Cup in September, his only senior appearance so far.

Wagner described him as a "big talent" and added: "He is super-fast for a centre-back, as well as young, energetic and fearless."

Norwich are at home to Blackburn Rovers on Sunday, having taken only one point from five league games in October, which has left them 17th in the table.
