Wrexham have appealed for witnesses after objects were thrown at Accrington goalkeeper Jon McCracken during the League Two game between the sides.

The 23-year-old, who is on loan from Norwich City, was allegedly targeted with four vapes and cigarette lighters.

He was uninjured, but 10 minutes of stoppage time were played at the end of the match, which Accrington won 2-0.

Lancashire Police began an investigation into the incident after Saturday's game.

"We are now asking anybody who can help our enquiries to get in touch," said Ch Supt Melita Warswick.

"A football match should be a family-friendly event and this type of incident, where items have been thrown at a player, is utterly unacceptable."

In a statement, Wrexham said: "The action of a very small minority of attendees could have a big impact on the football club, in the form of potential disciplinary action, increased policing costs and reduced ticket allocations for future games.

"We have a zero-tolerance approach to unacceptable behaviour at Wrexham AFC matches, home or away."
