Wilfred Gnonto scored twice to deny the Republic of Ireland a famous win
There was heartbreak for the Republic of Ireland's Under-21s as Italy scored in the 96th minute to draw 2-2 at Turner's Cross.
Killian Phillips gave the Republic the lead on the half hour.
Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto levelled the game in additional time in the first half but the hosts hit back through Sinclair Armstrong.
However, there was late drama as Gnonto's deflected header found to the net to deny the Irish a famous win.
Italy had not conceded a goal in their first four matches but Phillips broke the deadlock after he was set up by Armstrong.
Gnonto levelled from the penalty spot after Bosun Lawal was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area but the Republic hit the front once more when Armstrong bundled home two minutes after the restart.
Jim Crawford's side looked on course for a famous win but Gnonto, who has won 13 senior caps, brought the Italians level in the 96th minute.
