Cardiff City boss Erol Bulut calls for VAR in Championship

Former Turkey Under-21 international Erol Bulut joined Cardiff City in June

Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut wants the video assistant referee system to be used in the Championship after growing tired of officials' errors and what he deems a lack of respect.

VAR is used in the Premier League and European club competitions but not in the Championship and leagues below.

Bulut believes Cardiff should have been awarded a penalty during Tuesday's 1-0 home defeat against West Brom.

"This league for sure needs VAR," Bulut told BBC Radio Wales.

He added: "I didn't mention anything about referees because I respect them and I think they need to respect Cardiff more.

"Today was a clear penalty. We will report it. The cross from the right from [Perry] Ng, it [an alleged handball] was inside the area.

"I don't want to speak but they are pushing me. They are costing me many points."

Cardiff's defeat against West Brom saw them slip to eighth in the Championship, three points adrift of the play-off places.

The Bluebirds had a couple of appeals for penalties in the second half, one for the Ng incident and the other as Baggies centre-back Kyle Bartley slid in to block a cross from Ike Ugbo.

Bulut said he had previously complained to the EFL and Professional Game Match Officials Ltd about what he claimed were refereeing mistakes and received a response.

"They are always 'different opinion', but for me it is clear," he said.

"We have had many games - three more games I reported - and maybe I don't know the rules.

"It's not always the referees, we have to take our chances, but I played football for many years and have been a manager for many years. Maybe the rules are different in Turkey or Germany [where Bulut previously played and managed]."
