Former Wales defender James Chester has extended his contract with Barrow until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old joined the League Two club in the summer on a deal until January and has played 19 games so far.

Chester began his career at Manchester United and his former clubs also include Hull City, West Brom, Aston Villa and Stoke City.

Barrow are fourth in the table and have only conceded 19 goals, the second lowest total in the division.

"Certainly, from my point of view, signing was something that was going to be inevitable once the club spoke to me about extending," Chester told the club website., external

"It's been going quite well so far. Naz [Niall Canavan] and George [Ray] have had really good careers themselves and they've both got a lot of experience, and along with myself and Farms [Paul Farman] it governs itself almost; they make the game a lot easier for me."
