Scotland players Stephen O'Donnell and Liam Kelly are both in the final six months of their Motherwell deals

Four Scotland stars, a World Cup midfielder and one of the league's most exciting young talents - it's the ultimate January sales shopping list.

Almost 100 first-team squad players have gone into 2024 knowing they are free to talk to other clubs as their contracts enter the final six months.

For some of them, the next few months will be an opportunity to showcase their skills and earn a new deal - either with their current side or potential new suitors.

And with multiple international stars approaching free agency status, there could be many familiar faces on the move this year.

We've picked out our best of the bunch for 2024 - but who would you want joining your club?

Goalkeeper

Liam Kelly (Motherwell)

There's plenty of top-quality goalkeeping names coming to the end of their deals, including Celtic's Joe Hart, Rangers' Jon McLaughlin and Hearts and Scotland's Craig Gordon. But Kelly, still comfortably the right side of 30, is a Scotland squad regular and will be an attractive target for clubs seeking a high-quality bargain.

Defence

Borna Barisic (Rangers)

With more than 120 appearances for Rangers since joining in 2018, the Croatia defender has regularly shown his pedigree for the Ibrox side - including weighing in with more than 30 assists from left-back. The 31-year-old is likely to be in high demand from clubs across Europe keen to capitalise on his creative abilities.

Craig Halkett (Hearts)

A damaged cruciate ligament kept the former Livingston skipper sidelined until the end of last year. If he can prove he's overcome his injury issues, Halkett would be a more than solid defender for sides in the Premiership and beyond should he depart Tynecastle.

Liam Gordon (St Johnstone)

The double cup-winning St Johnstone skipper has been a near-ever present for the Perth side over the last couple of seasons - but could he be tempted away from his boyhood side after nearly a decade at McDiarmid Park?

Stephen O'Donnell (Motherwell)

The reliable warhorse for club and country, O'Donnell is just 31 as he goes into the final spell of his Fir Park contract. The right-back has been a mainstay for the Steelmen this season, but with the club's finances stretched, he may well be ripe for a new adventure.

Midfield

Ryan Jack (Rangers)

The Scotland midfielder has slipped down the Rangers pecking order since Philippe Clemente's arrival, suggesting his seven-year spell at Ibrox is coming to a close. But the solid defensive midfielder could yet feature in Steve Clarke's national squad at Euro 2024.

Keanu Baccus (St Mirren)

The South African-born midfielder forced his way into Australia's World Cup squad after his performances in Paisley, and is part of their Asian Cup pool currently in Qatar. The versatile midfielder has been a key man for Stephen Robinson since arriving in 2022 and is likely to attract much interest after a move to Bolton fell through last summer.

David Turnbull (Celtic)

With 22 goals and 16 assists for Celtic in the Premiership since joining from Motherwell four seasons ago, Turnbull is perhaps the most valuable player out of contract this summer. His time at Celtic hasn't worked out consistently but at just 24, the Scotland midfielder will likely have no shortage of suitors.

Connor Barron (Aberdeen)

The highly rated 21-year-old midfielder has been the subject of much speculation since breaking through to the Dons first team, not least from rivals Rangers, and signed with new agents just before Christmas.

Yan Dhanda (Ross County)

The creative midfielder, one of the highest-profile British Asian players, has shown his quality for the Staggies since arriving from Swansea in the summer of 2022. Hearts have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old this month, so might a move to Tynecastle be in the offing?

Forward

Christian Doidge (Hibernian)

The likes of Kemar Roofe, Simon Murray and Bruce Anderson are set to attract interest in the next few months as their contracts come up, but Doidge - while less prolific in recent years - remains a proven goalscorer with bags of experience at this level.
