Tranmere have the most points and goals in League Two since Nigel Adkins was appointed as permanent boss in November

Tranmere Rovers boss Nigel Adkins says he hopes "lessons are learned" after admitting a Football Association misconduct charge.

Adkins was sent off for two bookings during Monday's win over Notts County.

The FA alleges he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official after his dismissal.

Adkins said: "Regrettably I reacted uncharacteristically to the situation. I fell short of standards I have set."

The former Southampton, Sheffield United and Hull boss was charged with two breaches of FA Rule E3.1 during Rovers 4-2 win.

A statement said: "It's alleged that the manager acted in an improper manner during the 72nd and 85th minutes, which led to his dismissal, and it's further alleged that he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official after his dismissal."

Former Southampton, Sheffield United and Hull boss Adkins - who took over as permanent manager in November - told the Rovers website:, external "I'm passionate about my football, I'm passionate about the club I represent and I care for my players.

"I will be admitting the charge and believe it is important that lessons are learned from the incidents."
