Port Vale have appointed Matt Hancock as their new chief executive.

He has been promoted from his previous role as the club's community and social responsibility director.

Hancock will work alongside director of football David Flitcroft, who is responsible for all on-pitch issues.

"My short-term goal is to ensure that we become a very good and stable League One football club with infrastructure and facilities at the heart of this," he told the club website., external

"We have a fantastic opportunity on the horizon which will allow us to create a legacy where elite and professional can meet community and will allow us to expand our fantastic community outreach without sacrificing or underestimating the need to be a successful club on the pitch."

Former chief executive Colin Garlick left Vale Park in March last year as part of a restructure in Burslem.

Hancock joined the club from Burton Albion in January 2023 and Vale chair Carol Shanahan said: "The impact he has made in the 12 months across the whole club has been immeasurable.

"There are several exciting projects that we want to see come to fruition over the next few years and Matt is the right person to lead us in this exciting new era."
