Mika Biereth: Arsenal recall striker from Motherwell loan amid Sheffield Wednesday link
- Published
Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell says Arsenal recalling striker Mika Biereth from his season-long loan is a "major, major disappointment".
The 20-year-old is set for another loan move and has been linked with Sheffield Wednesday.
The Denmark Under-21 forward impressed in his Fir Park spell, playing 15 times and scoring six goals.
"Mika has been recalled. It's been a difficult one for us over the last 24 hours," said Kettlewell.
"It's a major, major disappointment. This was a little bit unexpected. The conversation was that Mika would stay here until the end of the season just last week unless something big came on the table for Arsenal that they couldn't turn down.
"They believe there's an opportunity to send him to another club that takes him that step beyond where we are just now."
Biereth started Motherwell's last 11 games after returning from a knee injury. His absence comes as Kettlewell's side, ninth in the Scottish Premiership, prepare to return from their winter break.
The Fir Park men host League 1 Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup fourth round on Saturday.
Biereth will not be available after returning to Emirates Stadium, with Wednesday - who are third bottom of the Championship - reportedly keen to take him on loan until the end of the season.
The striker ended last season on loan at Waalwijk in the Dutch top flight, scoring twice in 12 appearances.
