Plymouth Argyle head coach Ian Foster says he is still looking to strengthen his squad in this transfer window.

Argyle have brought in five new players since the start of January - three on loan and two permanent additions, while several members of the squad have left.

Foster says budgets will dictate any more additions, with an extra forward among the list of priorities.

"We've got space to bring a player - or players - in, depending who that is and how costly it becomes," Foster said.

"We'll see what happens over the course of the next week and hopefully we can strengthen the squad."

Tottenham youngsters Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine have arrived on loan, along with Leeds United midfielder Darko Gyabi - all of whom worked under Foster when he was a youth coach with England.

Defender Matthew Sorinola and midfielder Adam Forshaw have also joined the club on free transfers.

Meanwhile, winger Tyreik Wright has joined Bradford City on loan and defender Macaulay Gillesphey have moved to Charlton Athletic on a permanent deal, with four of Argyle's loanees also being recalled by their parent clubs.

"If you look at us going into the game at the weekend with no Alfie [cup-tied] in the squad and with Tyreik leaving it leaves us a little bit bare in that part of the pitch, so perhaps in the front areas it might be an area that we'd look to strengthen," Foster added.

"But, like I say, we will consider all options and we're open to availability as well, that's the key thing.

"It's never easy to get all parties agreed but we'll try our best."

Foster is in his first club managerial role, having worked with England's youth teams and most recently been Steven Gerrard's number two at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.

He feels that his reputation with the Football Association - he led England Under-19's to a European title in 2022 and took the Under 20's to the World Cup in Argentina last summer - will prove attractive for top-flight clubs looking to give their best youngsters Championship experience.

"What's been evident over the short period I've been here is that young players coming into the team will be given opportunities, so the big clubs are looking at that now with a lot of interest," he added to BBC Sport.

"Perhaps where they might have not considered Argyle as somewhere to send their players they are now, which is great.

"But it always comes down to what somebody's going to cost, and we've got to decide whether we go with numbers or we just get the one in.

"It might not be one, we'll do what's right for the club, and if we think that someone is available that will help us then we'll do it, and if we don't we're quite happy with what we've got."
