Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has scored 19 Serie A goals this season

Lautaro Martinez's goal gave Inter Milan a narrow win at Fiorentina as they returned to the top of Serie A.

The Argentine striker scored a near-post header from Kristjan Asllani's corner in the first half.

Fiorentina were awarded a penalty 15 minutes from time after Inter keeper Yann Sommer collided with M'Bala Nzola but Nicolas Gonzalez's weak effort was easily saved.

Inter are a point ahead of second-placed Juventus.

A super flying save from Sommer denied Giacomo Bonaventura in the 33rd minute, while Nzola's fierce strike was well blocked just before the break.

Luca Ranieri also headed wide from Rolando Mandragora's corner in the closing stages as La Viola fell to defeat.

Meanwhile, defending champions Napoli were held to a goalless draw at Lazio and remain ninth in the table, four points off the Champions League places.
