Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell says his side's 2-1 win at Barnsley was the best performance of his time in charge.

They ended the Tykes' 12-game unbeaten run and achieved their first back-to-back League One victories since August.

It moved Exeter, who had been in the relegation places on New Year's Day, up to 14th place, having taken 10 points from the last five games.

"It's as good as I've seen since I've been here, but we want to be better," Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon.

"We want to keep improving and once you go through difficult moments together I think it makes you stronger, and hopefully we can keep building on this in the remaining games this season."

Having led the table in September, Exeter went on a 13-game winless run in the league, earning just three draws in the process.

But Caldwell - who faced fan pressure to step down or be sacked - has turned his side's fortunes around in the past month.

"I hope our supporters enjoy it and they start to get belief in this team again," said Caldwell, who has been in charge since October 2022.

"But we won't look at the table, we'll look at our performance, we'll look at the process that we go through to try and get better for the next game.

"There's a lot of games still to play and a lot to achieve this season, so we have to keep sticking to the process to try and do that.

"We will keep behaving in the way we did when we went on the difficult run we went on," he added.

"We never lost faith in the players, we kept supporting the players and again when we're winning we'll try and make the players better and keep building."
