Joe Bevan: Burnley take forward from Lowland League Albion Rovers for undisclosed fee
- Published
Not many players go from Scotland's Lowland League to the Premier League in one transfer swoop, but that is exactly what Albion Rovers forward Joe Bevan has just achieved in joining Burnley.
Even if it is only to join the Clarets' under-21 set-up, they have seen "late potential" enough to pay a five-figure fee, plus add-ons, for the 19-year-old.
Bevan has signed an 18-month contract after a successful trial.
He described it as "a big achievement" to join "such a big club".
It comes only just over a year since Bevan made his first move into senior football, joining Rovers from East of Scotland First Division club Camelon Juniors for just £1500 in January 2023.
He was unable to prevent the Coatbridge club being relegated from League 2, but he has continued to impress for the side currently sitting a lowly 13th in Scotland's fifth tier, scoring 15 goals in 40 appearances overall.
Burnley academy manager David Longwell explained to his club website that Bevan had been recommended by their Scotland scout, Gregor Buchanan, and then "did really well" on trial in December.
"He's got a great attitude and profile and, having watched his games and knowing that he's coming to this level fairly late, we think he's got lots of potential," he added.
