Scott Brown will be "disappointed" not to receive a tasty reception when he takes his Ayr United side to face Rangers in the Scottish Cup last 16.

On Saturday the former Celtic captain returns to Ibrox, where he was a pantomime villain during a playing career in which he won 22 domestic honours with Rangers' Glasgow rivals.

But Brown is keen to make the occasion about his players rather than himself.

"I've got a lot of love for Rangers," he said with tongue in cheek.

"That's all in the past now. This is going to be a great experience for the club, it's going to be a great experience for the lads as well.

"I'm sure they'll cherish it. You want to play against good teams and Rangers are a good team."

Brown, who started his tenure with a win at Queen's Park before suffering defeat by Championship leaders Dundee United, says there has been a lot of positivity around Ayr since he took over.

Given that, he feels his players must travel to Govan believing they can get a victory in what could be an intense atmosphere.

"As long as I don't rise to anything, we should be OK," Brown said. "Yes, we are the underdogs. We know that, but there has also been a lot of cup upsets as well and I've been part of them.

"It's another game for us. We need to make sure we're organised and we believe that we can do that.

"It's a huge game for the club. It's going to bring a lot of money in, which is fantastic as well, but at the same time we want to go there and be in the game."
