Kevin Long scored twice in his 40 appearances for Blues

Birmingham City defender Kevin Long has ended his 13-month stay with the Championship club by signing for Canadian Major League Soccer side Toronto for an undisclosed fee.

Long, 33, was signed by John Eustace on a short-term deal from Burnley in January 2023, before agreeing a one-year contract in June.

But he made just two appearances under Wayne Rooney after Eustace was sacked.

And he has only played in half of the eight games under Tony Mowbray.

Toronto finished bottom in last season's MLS Eastern Conference, but they now have a new manager in County Durham-born former Canada head coach John Herdman.

Prior to joining Blues, Long, who has won 17 Republic of Ireland caps, had spent his entire professional career on Burnley's books, making 91 first-team appearances - including loans at Accrington Stanley (three times), Rochdale, Portsmouth, Barnsley (twice) and MK Dons.

Long scored twice in his 40 appearances for Blues, who currently have assistant manager Mark Venus in charge after the announcement of Mowbray's health scare.
