Burnley's Aaron Ramsey will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Midfielder Ramsey was carried off on a stretcher in the Clarets' 5-0 Premier League defeat by Arsenal on Saturday.

The 21-year-old was making just his fifth Premier League start for Burnley since arriving from Aston Villa for a fee in excess of £12m in August 2023.

"Unfortunately for us he was as bad as we thought, definitely his season is over," said Burnley manager Vincent Kompany.

"Maybe for the larger part of this year he won't feature. I don't want to go into specifics, but the main thing is he'll recover fully."

England Under-20 international Ramsey, the younger brother of Villa midfielder Jacob, made four senior appearances for the club and had loan spells at Cheltenham, Norwich and Middlesbrough between 2021 and 2023 before joining Burnley.

"It's a blow for him but it's part of a career," Kompany added.

"We will support him the best we can, he'll be an important player for us in the future. It's just unfortunate it's come at the time he's coming through."

Second-bottom Burnley travel to Crystal Palace in the league on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
