Daniel Ayala: Rotherham United release veteran defender

Former Middlesbrough and Blackburn defender Daniel Ayala was sent off in the final two of his seven appearances for Rotherham

Rotherham United have terminated the contract of Spanish defender Daniel Ayala by mutual consent.

The 33-year-old made seven appearances for the Millers after joining on a deal until the end of the season in October.

However, he was sent off in successive games in December and has not featured since because of a long-term injury and was not named in their 25-man squad after the January transfer window.

Rotherham are 19 points adrift of safety at the foot of the Championship.
