Torquay United interim manager Aaron Downes praised his 10-man side's commitment after they were beaten 1-0 at Welling United.

Ross Marshall was sent off midway through the first half for a foul on Cameron Green before Jason Adigun got the game's only goal 12 minutes later.

Despite being a man down Torquay created chances a day after the club formally went into administration.

Torquay remain in 19th place in National League South.

The financially-troubled club have had 10 points deducted and are currently just two points above the relegation places.

"The second-half performance was fantastic from the boys," Downes told BBC Radio Devon.

"The hand we were dealt with was a difficult one being 1-0 down and down to 10 men.

"But the second-half performance from the players was superb, there was only one team in it.

"We dominated territory, we dominated the ball, we had a game plan that we had to do because of the situation we were in, and I thought, bar scoring a goal, the boys were superb."
