It could turn out to be the pivotal weekend in the Scottish Premiership title race. After a comfortable victory for Celtic on Saturday, Rangers lost for the first time in their history to Ross County.

There was a stalemate against Dundee at Pittodrie that did nothing to help ease Aberdeen fans' season of fairly consistent misery, while a 2-0 victory for Kilmarnock at St Johnstone continued their fine campaign.

Those were the fans with most to say about the weekend's game, but there is something from nine of the 12 teams in this analysis of the Premiership action...

'Rangers have bottled it'

A first defeat against Ross County has left Celtic in charge of the title - and Rangers fans were predictably disappointed

Dougie: Defence again exposed easily and ripped apart. The points in hand allowed a mishap, but doesn't change the requirement to win at Parkhead. My worry is that it was the first team to blink that hands the title over... and we blinked.

David: Rangers have bottled it. Lacked ideas, urgency and the defence was found wanting again. It was a tough enough run-in having to play Celtic away and at least get a draw. As it stands we now need to win all our remaining games. Very disappointing!

Tom: Other than Cantwell, we were lethargic and looked like we were waiting for County to make mistakes. Defence was shocking, with Tavernier worst of all. Midfield lacked energy and attack was non-existent. We now need to win six games and these players are not good enough.

Robert: Completely unacceptable performance from Rangers. In my opinion, they turned up at Dingwall expecting to get three points instead of competing to get the three points. Not one player up to standard. Completely bottled it. Too many players can't handle the pressure of competing for the title.

Elaine: Embarrassing. You'd think we had never played together before. And no-one gets pass marks - including the manager. If we don't win on Wednesday and Sunday, season is over.

Hawk: Absolutely shocking display from a team going for the championship. No heart, no drive, no urgency - need I say more. Down to the players, not the manager. No excuses.

Angus: As poor a performance as I've seen for some time. Only Cantwell, Sima and Butland get pass marks. The rest were woeful. Dessers is a total waste of space. Big Phil needs to get this sorted but his team selections sometimes are baffling.

Martin: Wow, extremely shocked and disappointed with the result. Simple - six wins bring the title home, but the players have to believe in themselves and do it. Simple. Big push now, finish the job..

Meanwhile, Ross County fans were naturally thrilled by their historic victory - and hope Scotland manager Steve Clarke was watching...

Kyle: Victoria Park becoming a fortress again like our early Premiership seasons. Good sign for games to come. Don Cowie deserves the job long term.

Jim: All positives. Whole team stood up to Rangers and made them look well below their league position. We broke well, caused the Rangers defence problems all game and took our goals well. Hopefully that quality and momentum will carry into the post-split fixtures.

Evan: Probably the greatest win in the Staggies' history. This proud Highlands club deserves to stay in the Premiership.

Anon: It proved Don Cowie should be given the manager's job permanently. The tactics were spot on and they played the way Don used to play, ball on the ground and quick passing. Great to watch.

Ronnie: Best all-round performance for a long time. Bit nervy at the end but thought we just about deserved the win. Could be a massive three points, and probably would have been better for us if the split games were next week, rather than in a fortnight. Very proud Staggie.

Rob: I plan to enjoy this for a while, we waited long enough!

John: This has been coming for a while. This squad has huge belief and Don Cowie has nurtured that belief. Onwards and upwards.

Ron: Great performance and result. Thoroughly deserved first victory over the mighty Rangers (not so mighty on the day). Cowie was tactically astute and I hope he has guaranteed an attractive job offer from the chairman. Excellent individual performances, but truly a team win. Steve Clarke should widen his horizons and consider Ross Laidlaw as one of his options.

Celtic's Reo Hatate rockets his side into the lead against St Mirren

'Performances irrelevant at this stage'

Celtic fans were generally pleased with the efficient victory against St Mirren - and believe the return of players after injury is key to title success

Gordy: Fantastic second half and Reo Hatate's return could be pivotal for the run-in. Cameron Carter-Vickers continues to shine and the strength of the bench now looks good. We are in a great position with the league in our own hands.

Peter: At this stage of the season performances are irrelevant. Results are all that matter. I could not care less how we play in the next five league games, as long as we win them. Do that and we are champions. Keeping everyone fit will be vital.

Steve: I actually nodded off during the first half, as I was bored watching possession football with no end product. Fair play to St Mirren, who had a decent first half. The second half was much better. It's great to see Hatate back and his super strike settled us down. The jury is out for me on Nicolas Kuhn at the moment. I feel he is average at best.

'We've blown a big budget'

Aberdeen fans were largely united in their condemnation of a squad that is punching below its cost

Fred: A poor overall performance fitting of a team in the bottom six. No bite in attack but at least the defence was solid. A healthy attendance but the fans deserve more. Another major player clear-out is needed if we have any hope of top six next season. So few of the current squad are good enough.

William: Got into some good positions in the first half but the players' inability to do the basics let them down. We've blown a big budget on players that are incapable of reaching the levels we're aiming for. The incoming manager has a big job just to get us into the top half next season.

Allan: The usual huffing and puffing with no end result. I am also so fed up with Shinnie. We need a new skipper who leads by example. I fear for Saturday [Scottish Cup semi-final v Celtic].

Andrew: Sometimes in football, as in life, you end up exactly where you deserve to be. Yet again we failed to turn up in the second half. Such inconsistencies in our play is why we are ninth and Dundee are sixth. One-off games in the cup and Europe have been the only highlight of a long and underwhelming season. Maybe Miovski can fire us to another final.

Motherwell and Hibernian wrestle with elements at windswept Fir Park

'McInnes surely a stick-on for manager of year'

A flavour of the reaction to the results and performances from Heart of Midlothian, Kilmarnock, Dundee, Hibernian and St Johnstone

Chris (Hearts): A scary start but we had that little bit of quality to create some good chances and we managed to see them away. Shankland was quiet as a striker but his ability to create chances for us is phenomenal. By far the most bonkers 45 minutes of football I've seen at Tynecastle.

Mark (Kilmarnock): Derek McInnes surely a stick-on now for manager of the year. Fourth place and European football all but secured before a post-split ball has been kicked. An incredible season!

Ronnie (Dundee): We should have tied things up at home last week, but an excellent second half against Aberdeen does the job, with Motherwell also doing us a massive favour. A great season from Tony Docherty and the players; we need to get some contracts sorted now and look to next season.

Bea (Hibs): Absolutely terrible is how I describe Hibs at the moment. No fight and no guts. I hate to say it because I really wanted it to work but Montgomery is not the man to take us forward. I really question his decision making and his ability to motivate. Another poor season.

Gordon (St Johnstone): Craig Levein and Andy Kirk lack the skills required to motivate the team, and the players yet again showed no passion, no belief, no bottle or even a hint of composure. More backward passes than forward, players desperate to get rid of the ball as soon as they get it. To have scored 24 goals in 33 games is a disgrace. We are in deep trouble.
