Celtic narrowly defeated Hibernian to move top of the SWPL after Rangers were beaten by the same scoreline at Hearts.
The 1-0 victory at the Excelsior puts Celtic two points clear at the summit of the league table with six games left to play.
Glasgow City are now four points behind second place after a 4-1 victory over Partick Thistle.
Hamilton Accies - who moved off the bottom - and Aberdeen also won their games on Wednesday.
Caitlin Hayes' first-half header was the only goal in Airdrie after a tightly contested match against Hibs.
The Edinburgh side created a few chances of their own and Celtic keeper Kelsey Daugherty had to pull off a great save to deny Jorian Baucom with 20 minutes left.
In the capital, there were no goals in the first half at The Oriam despite numerous chances from Rangers.
And Katie Lockwood slotted home what turned out to be the winning goal after Tessel Middag failed to clear the loose ball in the box.
Rachel Rowe and Sarah Ewens forced Rachael Johnstone into several saves towards the end of the 90 minutes, but the Glasgow side could not find a way back into the game.
Carla Boyce found the back of the net after just six minutes to give Partick Thistle the lead at Petershill Park against Glasgow City.
It only took Emily Whelan two minutes to respond and grab an equaliser. A goal from Wilma Forsblom and a second from Whelan gave City the lead at the break.
Cori Sullivan buried the fourth and final goal deep into stoppage time to keep City seven points adrift of the top two.
Motherwell could not close in on seventh spot after they were held to a 2-2 draw with Spartans.
Paul Brownlie's side went a goal down when Becky Galbraith headed home right at the start of the second half.
Laura Berry equalised from the spot and then grabbed a second with 10 minutes left of the match. Two minutes later, Dion McMahon stepped up to salvage a point for Jack Beesley's side.
Aberdeen managed to hold off a persistent Montrose side to take all three points from Links Park.
The Dons scored twice in four minutes, Hannah Innes and Bayley Hutchison both found the back of the net, before Jade McLaren pulled one back for the hosts just eight minutes later.
Hutchison got Aberdeen's third early on in the second half and Montrose responded four minutes later to make it 3-2.
Hamilton Accies move off the bottom of the SWPL table with a 5-2 victory over Dundee United.
Accies went behind after just 15 minutes but responded almost immediately from the penalty spot thanks to Freya McDonald. A Mason Clark double, a goal from Melissa Reid and an own goal from United's Anna Taylor secured all three points for Accies.
Suzy Shepherd's side responded late on through Morgan Steedman to make it 5-2.
