Fiorentina have sacked manager Stefano Pioli following the club's worst ever start to a season.

The Tuscan side are winless this campaign and bottom of Serie A after collecting only four points from their opening 10 games.

Pioli returned to Fiorentina in July for his second spell in charge but the club's dismal form under his leadership has led to protests from supporters.

"ACF Fiorentina can confirm that Stefano Pioli has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team," the club said in a statement.

Fiorentina added that under-19 coach Daniele Galloppa has taken temporary charge of the first team.

Pioli's final game in charge was a 1-0 defeat by Lecce at home on Sunday, a day after sporting director Daniele Prade left the club.

The Italian manager led Fiorentina for just under two years before taking charge of AC Milan in 2019, where he won the Serie A title in 2022.

After leaving Al-Nassr in June he signed a three-year contract at Fiorentina, replacing Raffaele Palladino.

Galloppa's first game in charge will be at Mainz in the Conference League on Thursday.
