Torquay United manager Paul Wotton says he was impressed with his side's attitude in their 1-0 FA Trophy win over Truro City.

Having seen Truro have a Connor Riley-Lowe goal disallowed in the first half, Dan Hayfield curled a superb free-kick into the top corner eight minutes after the restart.

The victory ensured a third round tie for the Gulls, who reached the fourth round last season.

"I'll always pride my team on working hard, it's what I was as a player and my boys showed that," Wotton told BBC Radio Devon. "They never quit, they never gave up.

"I can't remember us losing many first contacts in the box, which is really important and the fans appreciate the hard work, I know they do."

Wotton, who was in the stands after being given a one-match touchline ban, singled out defender Oscar Threlkeld for particular praise.

The former Plymouth Argyle, Salford City and Bradford City defender joined the club in the summer after leaving Morecambe.

"He's a player I've known for 10 years now. I've coached him for a long time," Wotton added.

"I think lots of people will go away and not talk about him, which is kind of good.

"It was a manager's dream performance today. Breaking it up, nitty gritty, the horrible stuff that lots of people don't see, but people who know football see it."
