Angel City FC has become the world's most expensive women's sports team following a $250m (£192.3m) takeover.
The Los Angeles-based side have been taken over by US couple Willow Bay and Bob Iger - CEO of the Walt Disney Company – who will become the new controlling owners of the club.
The investment gives the club the highest valuation ever for a women’s professional sports team.
The previous highest valued team, San Diego Wave, was sold in March for $120m (£92.2m).
Previous Angel City owner, the Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, who is married to tennis great Serena Williams, will stay on the board and said the franchise "can be the biggest brand in all of women's professional sports".
Bay and Iger will also invest an additional $50m (£38.4m) to support the club’s future growth.
The club was only founded in 2020, but by 2023 Angel City FC had generated the highest revenue of any women’s team in the world.
The club are 11th in the NWSL with four wins from 16 games so far this season.
