Kyrell Lisbie scored a second-half hat-trick as Vertu Trophy holders Peterborough United roared back from two goals down to beat Aston Villa Under-21s 4-2.

Posh, winners at Wembley in the last two seasons, were facing the prospect of an early exit after losing their opening group game against Leyton Orient when Mohamed Kone and Alfie Lynskey put Villa in control.

But Lisbie netted twice and had another disallowed for offside before rounding off the scoring with a header after Jimmy-Jay Morgan had grabbed the third - James Donnelly providing three of the assists.

Lincoln City had a more comfortable evening against Manchester United, who included Jack and Tyler Fletcher, the twin sons of former Old Trafford favourite Darren, in their starting line-up but went down 3-0.

Tom Hamer put the 2018 winners in front early in the second half and Erik Ring doubled the lead before Reeco Hackett fired into the far corner with his left foot with two minutes remaining.

In the same group, League Two side Notts County inflicted a fourth successive defeat in all competitions on Barnsley, winning 2-1 at Meadow Lane.

Jayden Luker scored in the ninth minute and although Davis Keillor-Dunn brought the Tykes level, they then had Jonathan Bland sent off, and Tyrese Hall won it for the Magpies in the 89th-minute.

West Ham Under-21s went down to 10 men at Reading when Ezra Mayers was shown a red card after Callum Marshall had put them in front.

And the Royals made the most of their numerical advantage as Jacob Borgnis, Mark O'Mahony and Jeremiah Okine-Peters gave them a 3-1 victory.

It left Brighton to try and secure the first win for a Premier League club on the night, but they went down 5-4 on penalties to Barnet after the game ended in a 1-1 draw in north London.

Josh Robertson scored for the Seagulls in the 44th minute, with Callum Stead levelling the score from Ben Winterburn's pass.

Harrogate Town beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 with Ellis Taylor rounding the keeper to seal their second win of the competition in a game which saw Bojan Radulović have an added-time leveller disdallowed after an interruption lasting several minutes because of a drone flying over the ground.
