On-loan Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek says he wants to play as many games as he can at Bristol City and aims to stay the rest of the season.

Vitek joined the Robins from the Premier League side during the summer on a deal for the whole season but with the option of a recall in January.

The 22-year-old has impressed for City, keeping five clean sheets in 15 Championship matches - the joint third-best of all goalkeepers in the division.

"At the moment the main goal is probably to stay here the whole season and play as many matches as possible," Vitek said.

Vitek, a Czech Republic under-20 international, arrived at Ashton Gate with number one keeper Max O'Leary out with a long-term injury.

O'Leary had started every minute of every league match for the past two seasons at the club but now back fit has been unable to take a place in the starting XI back from Vitek.

While Vitek had a spell on loan with Accrington Stanley in League Two last season playing 18 matches, he said his time in the Championship had allowed him to take another "step forward" in his development.

"Every game brings different challenges and that's how you get as a young keeper the most experience, because you can be third goalkeeper on the training pitch when you're at Manchester United or big clubs like that but it will never give you the experience from the field," Vitek added.

"The past three months it's another step forward for me from last year and there are players with more quality and different solutions in front of goal, so I need to make more quick decisions and be ready."

That being said, Vitek's dream remains to become Manchester United's number one in the future.

"That's my plan but I will do my maximum for that and we will see - let's take game by game and now I'm focussing to play for Bristol City and do my best," he added.

"One day it would be a dream to play for Manchester United but I take game by game and I know there's a big challenge in front of me but I want to improve every week."
