Bristol City midfielder Josh Stokes has signed a new deal to stay with the Championship club until 2028.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at League One side Cambridge United, scoring eight goals in 34 appearances in all competitions, and won the club's player of the season and young player of the season awards last month.

Stokes has played one first-team game for the Robins in the EFL Cup since joining from Aldershot Town in January 2024, where he was initially loaned back to complete the 2023-24 campaign.

Stokes said he was looking to "get as much game time" as possible on his return to Ashton Gate.

"I felt like I had a positive season. I am always looking to improve my game and learn," he added.

Bristol City technical director Brian Tinnion said: "We are delighted to secure Josh's signature after his very positive loan with Cambridge. We are looking forward to seeing more of him this season."
