Coventry City midfielder Jack Rudoni says the way they lost their Championship game to Sheffield Wednesday in stoppage time was "criminal".

Rudoni's first goal for the Sky Blues had put them in front at the Coventry Building Society Arena before they conceded an equaliser in added time at the end of the first half and then another in the 93rd minute to lose 2-1.

The result left City 20th in the table, with only one win in their last seven matches, heading into the international break.

Rudoni, 23, told BBC CWR the manner of their defeat was difficult to take.

"Very hard - looking at the game you'd think it would be a win or a draw but a defensive lack of concentration let us down," he said.

"That really can't happen and we know that.

"We're devastated with the result but there's not a lot more we can do - just get ready for the next game in a couple of weeks."

A summer signing from Huddersfield, Rudoni's 26th-minute opener was the high point in an otherwise depressing result for the Sky Blues, who had beaten Blackburn in confident fashion at the CBS Arena four days earlier.

"I'm happy scoring my first goal and that's a positive to take away but it doesn't feel like it," Rudoni said.

"It took ages for us to start playing our stuff - way too long - and at either ends of the half, we lose concentration and they score.

"We needed more energy, what we had on Tuesday [against Blackburn] was top.

"We need more confidence - I don't know whether that's the right word - to play our stuff. We showed [that] in parts when we got into good areas but we need to be more clinical in both boxes."

Rudoni said City "need to sort out quickly" how they manage games.

"In that position [against Wednesday], you're either going to win or need to just take the point. You can't end up losing. It's criminal," he added.

'We need to come back with a bang'

Despite a third home defeat in five so far this season, Rudoni said there is no sense of panic about playing on their own patch.

"It's nothing like three losses at home and everyone's thinking 'oh no' - home is where we've got the fans, they create a great atmosphere and last time we beat Blackburn 3-0.

"We've just to regroup and sort it out. We need to take these two weeks to look at ourselves and see how we can be better and come back with a bang."

Coventry travel to Preston, who are one point and one place above them in the table, when the Championship resumes on 19 October.
