Torquay United manager Paul Wotton said he "couldn't be more happy" with his players' improvement despite twice spurning a lead in Tuesday's 2-2 draw at Hampton & Richmond.
Goals by Jordan Young and Sam Dreyer twice put the Gulls on course for a first away victory of the season and fourth place in National League South, but Craig Fasanmade drew the hosts level a first time before Charlie Sayers' late equaliser.
"I was so happy with their effort, their attitude, their application," said Wotton, who made three changes after questioning some of his players' efforts during their 2-1 defeat at Hemel Hempstead on Saturday.
"I'm gutted for the players that we haven't got the three points I felt we deserved."

Wotton praised a forward line including Cody Cooke, who provided the assist for Young's fifth-minute strike, and Louis Dennis, who set up Dreyer's header seven minutes before half-time.
"[They] looked a real threat," added Wotton, calling Young's display "terrific" against opponents who had taken seven points from their three previous home games this season.
"[But] we can't keep going into games where we have to score three to win.
"That's on me to coach it. It's a tough one. You take a point. Win your home games, draw away and you'll be all right.
"We defended really well. We gave the ball away for their goals but there was still an awful lot for Hampton to do to get the ball in the net."
Captain Matt Worthington was absent with a dead leg the midfielder sustained against Hemel Hempstead.
"Worthy's a tough character," said Wotton. "He must have been in a lot of pain to not declare himself fit."
Seventh-placed Torquay next host 15th-placed Slough Town on Saturday (15:00 BST).
