Newport agree new 10-year Rodney Parade lease

Newport County have agreed a new 10-year lease to continue playing at Rodney Parade.
The Exiles negotiated a short-term deal to remain at the ground after their previous 10-year licence expired in 2023.
But the League Two club have now agreed to spend another decade at Rodney Parade, home of regional rugby side Dragons.
County chairman Huw Jenkins confirmed the new deal in a mid-season statement issued to the club's fans, saying that having a "solid relationship" with Dragons was "vital".
"With that in mind, I'm pleased to confirm that we have now agreed and signed a new 10-year lease that was essential to satisfy EFL rules and provide much-needed security for the football club," Jenkins said.
County have played at the stadium since 2012, having moved from their previous home at Spytty Park.
They are currently 18th in the fourth tier, six points clear of the relegation places and 14 adrift of the final play-off spot.

Former Swansea City chairman Jenkins, who completed a takeover of Newport in January 2024, says the club are in stronger position financially than they were 12 months ago – but that there is more work to do.
"As I have said from day one when I was asked to consider taking over majority ownership of Newport County, the main priority was to slowly improve the financial position of the club which at the time was of serious concern," he added.
I'm pleased to say that over the last year, after the introduction of additional funding, the football club is now in a much more stable position. However, the challenge to reduce annual losses remains.
"Expenditure is still exceeding income, so it is important we keep on building revenue through commercial activities and matchday ticket revenue, while also continuing to control costs."
