'Workmanlike' Torquay United win at Tonbridge

Paul Wotton's side have lost just one of their last eight matches

Torquay United manager Paul Wotton says his side put in a 'workmanlike' performance in their 1-0 win at Tonbridge Angels.

Jordan Young got the only goal of the game as he converted from close range after Matt Jay had hit the post with a 35th-minute effort.

Offrande Zanzala went close to doubling the lead before the interval while Jay had a second-half effort cleared off the line.

Gulls keeper James Hamon made a good save late on to secure all three points.

The win ensures the Gulls stay in sixth place in National League South - they are four points off leaders Worthing and eight clear of eighth-placed Weston-super-Mare.

"Never underestimate 1-0 away from home," Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.

"First half it felt like a typical end of season game, it felt to me like two teams with nothing to play for, but we have got something to play for.

"I thought if we'd have stepped up first half we could have gone in more than 1-0 up, and then second half we were relatively comfortable seeing it out.

"But I still think we had good chances to put the game to bed, but all in all I think it was a very workmanlike away performance."
