Centre-back Rob Atkinson has signed a new two-year contract extension with Bristol City until the summer of 2028.

The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with fellow Championship side Portsmouth as he returned from long-term injury, with the club keen to sign him permanently.

Atkinson joined the Robins in 2021 from Oxford United and played 66 games before rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in February 2023.

He made 15 appearances for Pompey, scoring twice, as they secured survival in the division in May.

"I'm really happy to be home and to get the deal done," Atkinson said.

Bristol City technical director Brian Tinnion said that Atkinson's time at Portsmouth was a "massive success".

"He gained vital minutes while also putting in some really impressive performances," Tinnion said.
