Exeter City boss Gary Caldwell has hailed returning midfielder Reece Cole after an excellent winning goal at Bristol Rovers.

The 27-year-old superbly volleyed in City's second in their 2-1 victory at the Memorial Stadium for his second goal in as many games.

It caps a return to the side for the midfielder, who has missed large chunks of the season with injury.

The win all but ended any lingering relegation fears Exeter may have had, moving them 10 points clear of the drop zone in 15th place with four games to play.

"We've missed Reece Cole pretty much all season and he is a big player for us," Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon.

"He produces some magical moments, he did it last season many times.

"He's come back in the team, he's nowhere near fully fit in terms of match fitness, and he scored two big goals for us.

"That's what he does, he has a quality in and around the box that is as good as anyone at this level.

"He's another player that off-season and pre-season next year he has to get fitter and be a player that can be on the pitch more often to get more moments like that."
