Sheffield Wednesday defender Max Lowe is not expected to play again this season, according to head coach Danny Rohl.

Lowe injured his knee in the first half of the Steel City derby in Wednesday's last game before the international break.

Rohl admits that he does not think the 27-year-old has a chance of playing in any of their final eight Championship games.

"Max Lowe, I think the season is over for him," Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield. "This is hard.

"It's a shame that we miss him, that's football, but he was a really good signing for us."

Lowe moved across to Hillsborough from Sheffield United last summer and has played 37 times for the Owls.

He has played at full-back and then in both a back three and as a central defender in a back four, underlining his versatility.

But while Lowe is out, Scotland international Stuart Armstrong is close to fitness, although he may be better placed to return for the match with Hull City on 5 April.

Wednesday, who travel to Cardiff City on Saturday (15:00 GMT) are 12th in the table, six points off the play-offs ahead of the run-in.
