England and Chelsea defender Jess Carter has joined American side NJ/NY Gotham FC for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Carter, who has signed a contract until 2026, spent the past six years with the 2023-24 Women's Super League champions, winning England's top flight five times.

The 26-year-old full-back, who has previously played for Birmingham City, has cemented herself in the Lionesses' back line under coach Sarina Wiegman.

Carter was part of the team that won Euro 2022 and played at the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Gotham are currently fourth in the National Women's Soccer League.

“The club is playing at an incredible level right now in one of the toughest leagues in the world," said Carter. "I cannot wait to be a part of it all.”

Her fiance, Germany goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger, joined Gotham from Chelsea in April.
