Bristol City players need to "step up" in attack to turn more good performances into wins says head coach Liam Manning.

The Robins conceded in the 93rd minute to draw 1-1 with Sunderland on Tuesday, the third time they have let a goal in after the 85th minute this season to drop points.

They face QPR on Saturday having won two of their past seven matches.

"It's the final bit for me in terms of being able to win games and learning to win games but the big thing is it's not far away. I don't think many people can argue we've hit a level of consistency so far this season performance wise," Manning told BBC Radio Bristol.

"It's the hardest part but the lads need to step up as well. We've been honest, it's a really good group that we can be honest and have those tough conversations and put it out there.

"If you want to be successful, if you want to win, if we want to get where we want to get to people have to make sure they step up and be counted and they're good enough."

Bristol City are creating plenty of chances - they average 9.1 shots inside the box per game after 20 matches this season, which ranks them fourth in the Championship according to stats from Opta.

However, they have a shot conversion rate of 10%, which drops them down to 12th in the league rankings.

In three of their five most recent games they have had just two shots on target - against Sunderland, Portsmouth and Burnley.

Manning said the players are putting the work in although he cannot put a timeframe on how soon any changes will start to be seen.

"The lads are desperate to do it, we'll give everything we can but ultimately, when I look back, we can't keep saying we're performing well but not picking up points," he said.

"We're in an industry where you have to deliver, me, that's players, that's everybody.

"Are we heading in the right direction? 100%. But over time we'll have to make sure people are held accountable and people deliver because ultimately we all want to win."

The Robins will be without striker Sinclair Armstrong for the match against QPR, who picked up a "little injury" during the midweek game.

"We're still assessing that at the moment," Manning said.
