Goalkeeper Karl Darlow says Wales showed "guts and determination" to earn a 0-0 draw away at Turkey on Saturday.

Darlow, 34, had lighters thrown at him at the Kadir Has Stadium in Kayseri, Turkey, as Craig Bellamy's side were greeted with an extremely hostile atmosphere.

A late missed penalty from Kerem Akturkoglu leaves Wales second in Nations League Group B4 – two points adrift of leaders Turkey – before Tuesday’s final round of fixtures.

"As soon as we walked out you could hear the whistle and the boos," said Darlow.

"Lighters were being thrown into the six-yard box and I've never experienced the sheer whistling and noise like that."

Darlow made a couple of crucial saves to keep the game goalless, as Wales spent large periods on the back foot.

Wales had chances of their own, Harry Wilson coming closest when he hit the post in the first half.

Although the result means Turkey have the advantage going into the final round of games, Darlow said the result is one Wales can be proud of.

"We managed to communicate and defend solidly, and the effort from front to back was incredible," said Darlow.

"We knew what what to expect, we knew it was going to be hostile. They were going to press and run hard and they did all of that.

"We had to show real guts and determination to come away with a 0-0 and a clean sheet."

"It is something we can all be proud of."

Darlow has kept two clean sheets in his three international appearances, and has quickly won over Wales supporters.

The 34-year-old added that he has been delighted with the faith put in him by head coach Bellamy.

"I've come in late and I know they wanted me here," said Darlow.

"But you don't know until you get here whether they're going to have the faith in you.

"Thankfully he has and hopefully I've repaid him so far. Nights like this are why you do it, it was fantastic."

Wales finish their Nations League campaign at the Cardiff City Stadium against Iceland on Tuesday night.

Bellamy's side must beat Iceland and hope Turkey are beaten by Montenegro.

If Wales win but finish second in Group B4, they will face a Nations League promotion play-off in March.
