Leyton Orient have signed midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson from Wycombe Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old has signed a three-year contract and becomes O's boss Richie Wellens' sixth summer signing.

Bakinson made 34 appearances in all competitions last season as the Chairboys pushed for automatic promotion before finishing fifth in League One.

O's head coach Wellens revealed he had tried to sign Bakinson last summer before a season in which his side reached the League One play-off final - which they lost to Charlton Athletic.

"Tyreeq is someone I have wanted to sign for a long time now, and we're buzzing to have him on board," Wellens told the club's website., external

"Technically, he's an excellent player, and he's coming into an age now where we feel he is ready to hit the peak of his abilities.

"Recently losing a couple of midfielders, we needed someone of Tyreeq's ability to come in and fill that void. We're confident he can bring real athleticism and tenacity into our midfield, and I'm excited to see what he can do in an Orient shirt."

Bakinson began his career at Luton Town before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in 2022 after a switch to Bristol City and a series of loans.

He made 32 appearances in the Owls' League One promotion-winning campaign of 2022-23 before going on loan to Charlton Athletic for the second half of the following season and moving to Wycombe last summer.

Bakinson has joined the O's squad for their pre-season training camp in Spain.

"The first session was tough in this heat, but the manager wants fitness and intensity from his teams, and it was really good to start getting used to what the staff want from us," he said.

Orient begin the new League One season away to Huddersfield Town on Saturday, 2 August.
