Head coach Tom Cleverley believes Plymouth Argyle were on the "wrong side of the coin" after Swansea City knocked his side out of the Carabao Cup on a penalties.
Brendan Wiredu's header cancelled out Žan Vipotnik's thunderous opener, as Argyle — who fielded eight changes, including three teenagers— took their Championship opponents to spot-kicks at the Swansea.com Stadium.
However, Matthew Sorinola's shot was saved by Swansea keeper Andy Fisher in the shootout and that ultimately cost the Pilgrims as the Swans scored all five of their penalties.
Both sides had chances to win the tie in regular time with Bim Pepple spurning a one-on-one with Fisher and Swansea's Malick Yalcouye heading over from six yards.
"On another day, when Bim Pepple turns away from their centre back, who is the last man it's a different outcome," the former Everton and Watford midfielder told BBC Radio Devon.
"We had good rhythm, we had good quality. We created the best chance of the game and and although the result hasn't gone our way, there's no way we don't carry the momentum from this performance.
"All these small things, we're on the wrong side of the coin at the minute and I'm sure they'll change," he added.
Under Cleverley, Argyle have recorded just two wins so far this season - one of which was in their Carabao Cup first-round win against Queens Park Rangers - and have now lost five out of seven games in all competitions.
The Pilgrims sit 19th in League One but Cleverley said their fortunes will change.
"We're in a moment where we don't see it seem to be getting what we deserve right now, but it's important the players keep believing in the right things, the right processes and eventually that will bring results," the 36-year-old said.
"I thought they were fantastic - eight changes, teenagers touching the pitch, coming to a really good Championship side who we expected to have the lion share of possession, but we certainly had the lion share of the chances I thought."
Argyle visit league leaders Cardiff City on Saturday.
