Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson says his players are "recharged" after the international break - even though they were keen to continue with their impressive form of late.

The Dragons are currently second in League One, two points behind leaders Birmingham City and had their contest with Lincoln City on 12 October postponed due to international call-ups within the Imps' squad.

“Obviously we didn’t want the break, we were in good form, the games were called off so you quickly switch to how we can utilise the break,” Parkinson said.

“After the game against Wolves (EFL Trophy) we trained on Wednesday, had a really good session then we gave the lads an extended weekend off.

"For the players and the staff it was good to have that to recharge the batteries mentally and physically and the players have come back in good shape this week.”

Saturday's trip to Rotherham United represents the start of another busy period for Wrexham - who have three games in seven days.

Following the trip to the New York Stadium on Saturday to face Steve Evans’ side, they host Huddersfield Town next Tuesday before another away game against Charlton Athletic, and Parkinson is looking forward to see how his team compete against three strong sides.

“It’s a good week for us, an exciting one for us in terms of profile,” he added.

“I’ve come up against Steve (Evans) many times, obviously his teams are always really competitive, he did a great job at Stevenage over the last couple of years, now he’s gone back to his old club.

“Over the last 10 years they’ve been top end League One or bottom end Championship, so it’s another good benchmark for us.

"They’ve picked up recently but we go there in good form and in a good frame of mind and the players feel they’re ready.”

Before his side's 2-0 defeat by Birmingham City in September, Evans said: "We've not played the Harlem Globetrotters, who will turn up when Parky (Phil Parkinson) brings Wrexham here with the stars that come with the ownership there.”

Responding to Evans' comments, Parkinson said: “If Steve described us as that, then that’s fine.

“We do kind of bring a profile to any game but I think there’s an expectancy at Rotherham as well.

“When we’ve gone to teams in League Two or the National League, it’s like 'Wrexham have come to town', it’s a packed house, people come to see Wrexham.

"I don’t see that as much in Rotherham, there’s huge expectancy from their supporters to be top of the league.”
