Although Northern Ireland cannot improve on third place in Group A, midfielder Isaac Price insists Monday's final World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg is a "massive game".
Defeat in Slovakia on Friday leaves a top-two finish out of their grasp, but thanks to their Nations League finish, are assured of a play-off spot.
Michael O'Neill's side will learn of their Pot One opposition on Thursday, but Monday's game against Luxembourg at Windsor Park will be their last outing before they compete in a play-off semi-final in March.
With that in mind, Price feels there is much to play for in order to build some momentum before then.
"I know a lot of people have said it's a nothing game in terms of we can't get any higher in the table, but I think this is a massive game," the 22-year-old told BBC Sport NI.
"It's the only game we have to build on before we have probably the biggest game in our careers in March. It's a game to build on and I think we will try to do that.
"We are really fortunate we did well in the Nations League.
"It's (play-off) a big chance for this group of players to go and achieve something massive. We know it will be difficult in March, but I think we are more than capable of it."
Tomas Bobcek's injury-time goal finally broke Northern Ireland's resistance on Friday after Slovakia had had two earlier goals chalked off.
It wasn't a vintage display from Michael O'Neill's men, so the opportunity to bounce back on home soil is an opportunity Price hopes they can take.
"It was a really disappointing result," the West Bromwich Albion player said of Friday's defeat.
"We know we weren't good enough in the game but have this game to come back to.
"I don't think there is any place better than coming home and hopefully we can put on a really good performance."
